Western Health is proud to be participating in an Australian James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership which is focused on advancing research into women and cardiovascular disease.

The James Lind Alliance (JLA) is a UK based non-profit that brings together patients, carers and clinicians through Priority Setting Partnerships. These partnerships help researchers and funders focus on the issues that matter most to the people who will ultimately benefit from the research in their everyday lives.

Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of illness and death in Australian women (Australian Government’s Institute of Health and Welfare). Almost every hour of everyday, an Australia woman dies of heart disease with around 40% of heart attacks fatal in women (Heart Foundation).

Despite this, women have historically been underrepresented in cardiovascular research. This has resulted in significant gaps in evidence around risk factors, diagnosis, treatment and outcomes.

This important research initiative will explore the unique factors affecting women at different life stages, helping to build a stronger understanding of their risk and improve health outcomes.
