A renovation of the historic Anzac Tree memorial at Bacchus Marsh Hospital will be unveiled at this year’s Dawn Service on Saturday 25 April 2026.

The centrepiece of the enhanced memorial space is a magnificent Aleppo Pine, propagated from seeds of the original Lone Pine that once stood on the Gallipoli Peninsula at the site of the Battle of Lone Pine in 1915.

Pedestrian access to the site has been installed via a concrete pathway from Turner Street. A new flower bed has also been planted, railings around the tree repainted and the memorial’s brass plaque cleaned.

The project was instigated by the Bacchus Marsh RSL, Legacy and Lions Club organisations, and generously enabled with materials and labor donated by ABC Grounds Maintenance and Mastro Concrete Solutions & Ballin Courts.

“Our renovated Anzac Tree memorial at Bacchus Marsh Hospital looks tremendous and can now be easily accessed by pedestrians. I’d like to thank all the organisations and individuals who came together and donated their time, effort and materials to make this possible – a wonderful demonstration of the Anzac spirit in action”
Western Health CEO Professor Russell Harrison

Bacchus Marsh Lions Club President Jock Wright said the memorial is an important point of remembrance for the local community of those who have served their country.

“We were delighted to support the renovation of this local feature. It has a special connection with Lions Club, as the father of one of our members was responsible for creating the original Anzac Tree memorial in 1969. The new pedestrian access enables visitors to read the memorial plaque and enjoy this beautiful space,” commented Mr. Wright.

Aaron Jones of ABC Grounds Maintenance led the installation work and said the project was close to his heart.

“It’s an amazing story how this tree came to be here and donating our services for this great cause was an easy decision.”
