At 8 am on 18 February, the current Footscray Hospital Emergency Department will close to new patients.

From 8 am, anyone requiring emergency care should go directly to the new Footscray Hospital Emergency Department, located at 20 Geelong Road.

You can access the Emergency Department from both Ballarat and Geelong roads. A vehicle drop-off zone is clearly signed in front of the Emergency Department entrance. Please share this information with your family and friends.

Footscray Hospital Emergency Department will continue to be an adult ED. Unless critically unwell, most children will be redirected to a nearby paediatric emergency department.

When you need urgent healthcare now, but it's not life-threatening, and you can't wait to see your GP, help is available. Visit, ring or video call Victoria's free urgent care services. For more information about urgent care clinics, visits the Department of Health website

To support the safe transfer of patients on 18 February, we’re asking that members of the public don’t visit either the original or new Footscray Hospital on this day, unless they need emergency care.

While we're restricting patient visitors on move day, exemptions are in place for compassionate or essential care provision. We’ll let immediate families and contacts of patients being transferred on the day know when they may visit.
