We are proud to be recognised for supporting staff who serve as reservists in the Army, Navy or Airforce.

Footscray Theatre received a 2025 Victoria Employer Support Award from the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

These awards honour civilian employers who go above and beyond to support reservist staff.

Nurse thanks outstanding leadership and colleagues

Daniel Jewell, a Theatre Nurse and Army Reservist nominated Footscray Hospital Theatre for the award.

He said his managers clear him for duties without hesitation, even at short notice, and his team steps up every time.

‘Western Health sees the bigger picture,’ Daniel said.

‘They understand that Reserve service is not a disruption but a contribution to the wider community.’

Daniel is currently completing the Army Reserve Captain’s Course with the backing of his managers.

‘It makes a real difference knowing your organisation values what you do outside the hospital,’ Daniel said.

‘I wouldn’t be able to do both roles well without that backing, and I’m genuinely grateful for it.'

Ann Williams, Perioperative Operations Manager, said the award showcases the dedication and flexibility of our leaders and teams.

‘They help our reservist colleagues balance their professional roles with their vital Defence Force commitments.’

Pharmacy team also recognised

Anthony Tran, Custodial Health Senior Pharmacist and Army Reservist, nominated the Pharmacy team for their support.

‘The nomination recognises that staff are able to draw upon and leverage skills and experiences in both work settings,' Anthony said.

He thanked his manager, Deputy Director of Pharmacy – Quality and Informatics Andrew Vuong, for his ongoing support.

Andrew congratulated everyone involved in the achievement and thanked the staff who took the time to nominate Western Health.
