Diabetes Foot Service

The Diabetes Foot Service provides specialist care for people with diabetes related foot ulceration or Charcot Foot.

DFS is a podiatry led service provided at Footscray Hospital with clinical consultation by an Endocrinologist, Vascular Surgeon, Infectious Disease Physician and Diabetes Clinical Nurse Consultant each week. The service also has the support of Orthopaedics, Orthotists, Orthopaedic Technicians and Psychology.

The Diabetes Foot Service provides specialist care for people with diabetes related foot ulceration or Charcot Foot. 

Who this service is for

Inclusion Criteria

Patients must have one of more of the following:

  • A non-healing foot ulcer
  • Acute ulceration with infection
  • Active Charcot foot
  • ​Acute lower limb ischemia with foot ulceration.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Patients with a foot wound but without a diagnosis of diabetes
  • Referrals for routine diabetes foot checks
  • Patients requiring footwear and/or orthotics not related to an active foot wound.

The Diabetes Foot Service accepts referrals from patients living in the West of Melbourne and beyond.
