Faciomaxillary Surgery (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

 

'The Faciomaxillary Unit treats disorders of the face, mouth and jaws.

The unit specialises in the management of trauma of the face, facial infections, orthognathic surgery, jaw surgery and dento-alveolar surgery'. All specialists have dual qualifications in both medicine and dentistry.

The Faciomaxillary Unit is also involved with the management of Special Needs Dentistry patients, and the management of patients from the Gathering Place Health Service requiring oral care through the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne. All Special Needs Dentistry patients requiring inpatient stays are treated at Western Heath under the auspices of the unit. For this service, the unit has won an 'Inspire' award through Western Health but also was the recipient of the 2017 Victorian Public Healthcare Award, Safer Care Victoria compassionate care award.
