Birthing consists of 10 birthing rooms where midwives care for women during their labour and birth. If labour is progressing normally and there are no concerns about you or your baby you will be cared for by one of our skilled midwives. Your support person will also be encouraged to be involved in your care.
Our team of obstetricians, medical staff and paediatricians are available at all times and work with our midwives to provide care for you if your pregnancy, labour or birth is, or becomes more complex.
We have one Birthing Pool that can be used if it is available for pain relief and water birth. We also have a number of inflatable Birth Pools. Speak to a midwife during your pregnancy if you would like to use a pool during your labour.
The use of water for pain relief and waterbirth is offered:
There are strict guidelines that are followed for waterbirth, speak to your midwife to discuss these guidelines if you would like to consider this birth option.
The pain management team will support you in your choice of pain relief and is responsible for epidurals and any anaesthetics required. This service is available 24 hours.
