Welcome packs for first Footscray Hospital patients
The Western Health Foundation marked a special milestone as the first patients arrived at the new Footscray Hospital, welcoming them with thoughtfully prepared gift packs to help make their stay a little more comfortable.
To celebrate the historic moment, members of the Foundation team and a dedicated group of volunteers came together to prepare 200 welcome boxes for patients. Each pack was carefully assembled to help patients feel supported and welcomed as they settled into the new hospital.
Inside each box was a limited-edition “First Patient” fine bone China mug to commemorate the occasion, along with hand cream and Australian-made natural soap from La La Land. Patients also received donated Funday lollies and a practical laundry bag to use during their stay.
One of the most special touches came from students at Footscray Primary School, who created hand-drawn “get well soon” cards for patients. The colourful illustrations and heartfelt messages added warmth and encouragement, bringing smiles to patients during the hospital’s opening days.
The welcome packs were delivered across the wards by Nursing Unit Managers, helping ensure each patient felt personally welcomed into the new facility.
Through initiatives like this, the Western Health Foundation continues to support patient care across the health service by funding vital equipment, programs and initiatives that improve the experience of patients and families across Melbourne’s west.
