Western Health is proud to be named a finalist in two categories for the 2026 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards (VPHA), a recognition that highlights the dedication, innovation, and compassion of our teams.

Premier’s Large Health Service of the Year 2026

We are honoured to be shortlisted for the Premier’s Large Health Service of the Year, alongside Monash Health and Northern Health.

Western Health has been recognised for demonstrated excellence in innovation, strong partnerships and a deep commitment to person-centred, equitable care, including the safe and successful opening of the new Footscray Hospital.

Across hospital, community and home-based services, Western Health continues to improve access, strengthen safety and quality, support priority populations and deliver high-quality care, while building the capacity and capability needed to meet future growth.

Excellence in Aged Care

The BeWell program empowers older adults through choice, purpose and connection by promoting meaningful activity and social engagement.

Using existing resources, BeWell delivers individual and group activities co-designed with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team, with ongoing feedback shaping a culturally responsive and flexible model.

The program achieved 90% participation, increased time out of bed by 12%, and improved independence and patient experience, with no increase in adverse events

Congratulations to everyone involved in these outstanding programs, and to all the teams who were nominated.

Winners will be announced at the 20th Victorian Public Healthcare Awards Gala Night on Wednesday, 14 October 2026.
