Privacy rules for photography and video recording
Photography and video recording are not permitted in many areas of our hospitals to protect the privacy and safety of patients, visitors and staff.
To protect the privacy and safety of consumers, patients, staff and visitors, taking or sharing photos or videos at Western Health sites without consent is not permitted.
Patients, consumers, families and visitors must not take photos or videos in the following situations:
- during medical procedures
- of hospital staff, unless the staff member has given permission
- of other consumers or visitors
- of any consumer or patient who cannot give consent, such as someone who is unconscious or sedated
- of electronic monitoring equipment or records where personal information may be visible
- in operating suites or other areas where procedures are performed.
Exception: photos or videos may be taken during a caesarean section only if permission has been given before the operation.
These rules help ensure everyone’s privacy, dignity, and safety are respected while receiving or providing care.
