Every year, Western Health treats hundreds of patients like Mark suffering from the life-changing effects of brain injury - through stroke, tumour, aneurysm or traumatic injury. Most patients will require months of rehabilitation to get them back to doing basic everyday activities. Your donation today will provide for the very latest in robot-assisted therapy to help patients like Mark regain their independence...quicker!
Evidence shows that patients recover best when they can achieve 1,000 exercise repetitions a day; however, achieving such high levels is extremely difficult with traditional exercises. Robotic devices like the Rehabtronics ReJoyce Workstation enable patients to work towards this goal while motivating them to improve time and scores during their therapy sessions. The robotic device guides patients through a range of interactive programs that simulate real-life tasks like opening a key lock or turning a jar lid. There are many patients at Western Health who will benefit from the ReJoyce Workstation. But we need your help. One of the main barriers to this new type of technology is the cost, with only a handful of hospitals in Australia offering robot-assisted therapy. With your support, we can be the first and only hospital in Melbourne's west to offer this state-of-the –art technology. Please donate today and help us raise $50,000 towards a Rehabtronics ReJoyce Workstation.

For stroke survivor Mark, it's the simple things like doing up a button, or opening a bottle of water, that he finds the most challenging. The former tennis and AFL performance coach suffered a debilitating stroke in December 2020 that left him paralysed on this left side. After spending six weeks on the rehabilitation ward at Sunshine Hospital, Mark has been undertaking a weekly regime of Community Based Rehabilitation to improve the function in this arm and help him regain his independence. "My motto is whatever it takes. Whatever it takes to get myself back to doing things for myself. "To be able to pick up objects with my left hand…drive the car…take the dog for a walk…all the things that I took for granted. "The robotic workstation would really make a difference to my recovery." |
