Our focus is on the implementation of measures to reduce the risk of hospital acquired infection to patients and to protect the health care worker, visitors and others. Our goal is to accomplish this in the most efficient and cost effective manner utilising a number of activities.
These activities include:
acting as a source of specialist advice within the Health Service advising and supporting Doctors, Nurses, Allied Health and other Healthcare workers on best practice
daily review of patients with infection related issues
carrying out surveillance activities, such as the monitoring of antibiotic resistant organisms and surgical wound infections
undertaking regular Infection Prevention related audits to measure compliance against National standards
managing outbreaks of infection
delivering an education program
devising Infection Prevention policy and procedures
representing Infection Prevention on a number of Western Health committees
advising on Infection Prevention issues relating to new buildings and refurbishment works
