While it's easy to get disheartened by the impact of coronavirus on our everyday lives, it is the generous acts of kindness in support of our frontline healthcare workers that is providing a beacon of light as we navigate our way through this crisis.
Western Health has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from individuals and local businesses who are all wanting to do their part to help ease the load of our hard-working staff. From donations of food and coffee, personal protective equipment, to messages of support, the community response has provided a much-need boost to the ongoing morale of staff. "Our staff are at the coalface of this crisis," says Julia White, Director of Western Health Foundation. "They have been working tirelessly, since January, to put in place measures to protect and care for those in our community, and we still don't yet know what is to come. Knowing the community is there, supporting us, means so much." In a time when coming together is physically impossible, the Western Health 'It's Up to Us Campaign' is providing an online platform for people in the community to connect and offer support for Western Health staff. Whether by sending a message of support, doing a kind deed, or donating to the Western Health Emergency Response Fund. The Western Health Foundation is coordinating the community response to the campaign, fielding offers of support and distributing messages across the organisation. "We are so very grateful for everybody who has made a donation or sent through a message of support," says Julia. "We have been collating these messages and displaying them in our staff wellbeing rooms at Sunshine and Footscray Hospitals." "It really means a lot for our staff to come here to take time out, grab a donated meal and to read through the messages of support and encouragement." For a listing of supporters click here
