Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS)
The Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS) comprehensively assesses the needs of frail older people and facilitates access to available care services appropriate to their needs - it is an independent assessment. Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS) determines the eligibility for a range of Australian government subsidised services, including residential aged care, residential respite, home care packages and flexible care.
The Aged Care Assessment Service is made up of health professionals including Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Geriatricians.
The Aged Care Assessment Service provides an independent assessment of physical, medical, psychological, environmental and social needs. This helps to determine the care and services an older person may require to help meet those needs. The assessment is conducted in the clients home. Carers and family members are also included as part of the assessment.
Aboriginal people and/or Torres Strait Islanders are eligible for an ACAS assessment from 50 years of age. Western ACAS services a diverse group of clients. Interpreters will be used where necessary.
