General Internal Medicine Unit
The General Internal Medicine unit is spread across Footscray and Sunshine Hospital and is one of the largest units at Western Health admitting over 6000 patients each year.
The Unit is a specialist medical unit with a focus on general and acute care medicine. This requires us to provide specialist non-surgical health care to adult patients with complex, confusing, difficult, serious or unusual medical problems.
The General Internal Medicine unit is:
committed to multidisciplinary care that ensures our doctors, nurses, allied health care and other hospital support staff are focused on working together to help meet your needs
staffed by general and acute care medicine specialists, junior doctors, specialists in training, nurses and allied health care providers who are broadly educated to deal with the entire range of your medical problems
thorough, logical and scientific in its approach to providing you with an expert diagnosis
able to assess and choose drugs, treatments, investigations and other medical therapies wisely
here to care for you as a whole person, not just body systems
highly skilled in clinical decision making and cost effective use of limited health care resources
working closely with other hospital specialty services
