The Victorian Government has provided up to $1.5 billion to deliver a New Footscray Hospital – one of the state’s largest ever health infrastructure investments.
Located on the corner of Geelong and Ballarat Roads, the New Footscray Hospital will support the increasing demand from Melbourne’s booming western suburbs, ensuring families can get the care they need close to home.
This state-of-the-art hospital will provide a full range of emergency, medical, surgical, subacute and mental health services for adult patients. The facility will also complement Western Health’s focus on research, innovation and training. Close links with universities, including a location next door to Victoria University’s Footscray Park campus, will position the site as a leading health, education and research precinct.
The hospital has been designed to be welcoming, restorative, vibrant and connected – all the things that Melbourne’s west is! Integral in the design are features such as a large central green space, terraces and winter gardens with operable louvered glass, and specially commissioned public artworks.
Western Health are excited our dedicated healthcare teams will be delivering their exceptional standards of care at the new hospital. With access to world-class facilities, state-of-the-art medical equipment and cutting-edge technology, our people will be supported in their role of delivering the best care possible to our patients.

There will be natural light to as many work areas as possible – more than 7,500 glass panels have been craned into place on the external facade, enabling expansive views of the Melbourne CBD, Footscray Park, the Maribyrnong River and the Western suburbs.
The New Footscray Hospital will create a range of new job opportunities and recruitment planning is currently underway. An update, including timing, will be published here in the coming months.
Construction is set to be completed in late 2025.
