The Medical Ambulatory Day Unit, or MADU unit, is for patients who need treatment for a variety of conditions in hospital, without needing to stay overnight. It has 6 chairs and 2 beds for treatment.
Patients can be referred to MADU from GP's for blood transfusions only, the private consulting rooms at Western Health, or after going home from a stay in hospital.
MADU is unable to accept any direct referrals from GP clinics for iron infusions, however the GP can refer you to one of Western health's specialist outpatient clinics such as: haematology, gastroenterology or gynaecology, then if required MADU can facilitate your iron infusion.
You will get a letter when an appointment in MADU is made for you. When you receive your appointment letter please ring the respective area Sunshine or Footscray to confirm your appointment.
MADU is located on floor 2M at Sunshine Hospital, and on 2 South at Footscray Hospital.
We are open Monday to Friday, from 8.30am until 4.30pm. We are closed on public holidays.
Patients are referred to MADU for treatment of a variety of conditions. These may include, but are not limited to:
Neurological conditions:
- Lumbar puncture
- Immunoglobulin infusions to treat autoimmune diseases
- Steroid infusions
